India: The Third Largest Greenhouse Gas Emitter.

The Indian government said in Lok sabha that India is the third largest greenhouse gas emitter as it contributes 5.3% after countries like China and the USA.
Environmental Minister Jayanthi Natarajan said that "According to the currently available information, the countries which are the largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions are, China 19.5%, USA 19.2% and, India with 5.3 %. MP Susmita Bauri Natarajan, in her written reply to CPI-M said that the Government has taken steps to reduce the intensity of carbon greenhouse gas emission. She further added that "India will make an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 20 to 25 % and also said that government is initiating programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in comparison to the 2005 level.
